Cokeville Sprint Medley squad wins event championship on Day 1

The 1A classification was probably affected the most with poor weather conditions on Day 1 of State Track and Field. The schedule of events was adjusted to add more to Friday and Saturday and the Cokeville athletes only had a handful of events that took place on the opening day of competition.

The Panther quartet of Nephi Cook, Ammon Hatch, Flint Linford and Joey Thomas capitalized on their chance in the 1600-meter sprint medley, winning the state championship in the event with a time of 3:47.83, nearly ten seconds in front of second-place Burlington.

The Lady Panthers placed sixth in the same event with at time of 4:49.85 from Paislee Tims, Rachel Thomas, Presli Pope and Whitli Groll.

Cokeville also got a few more team points from Geneva Murdock who placed fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:21.96.

In the 1A team scores, Saratoga led the girls race after Day 1 with 21 points, followed by Burlington with 15. Cokeville’s 8 points trailed Lingle Ft-Laramie who compiled 10.

The Panthers were third after the first day with 10 points. Burlington scored 31 points to pace the 1A team scores, followed by Burlington’s 15 points.
