Cowboys Host Northern Colorado in Stripe Our of War Memorial Stadium on Saturday Contest on MW+
The Wyoming Cowboys open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday hosting Northern Colorado in the annual Stripe Out of War Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m.

Saturday’s contest will be streamed live on MW+. Wyoming Notes
Home Openers: The Wyoming Cowboys have had a successful run-in non-conference home openers over the years. Wyoming is 53-12-1 winning 80 percent of the non-conference home openers.
Stuhlsatz Racks Up Tackles: Linebacker Ethan Stuhlsatz recorded a career-high 15 tackles for the Brown and Gold in the opener. It marked the second time in his Cowboy career that he has recorded 10 or more tackles. He had seven tackles in the first half and eight in the second half. He ranks xx in the nation this season in tackles per game, which that number ranks x in the MW. His 15 tackles were the most by a Cowboy since Chad Muma had 17 against Utah State in 2021.
Bogar Has Career Day: Defensive end Esaia Bogar had a strong opener for the Cowboys. He finished the contest with a career-high 11 tackles marking the most by a UW defensive end since Tyce Westland had 14 last season against AFA. It is also the third most by a UW defensive lineman since 2012, as Mike Purcell had 16 against Cal Poly in 2012.
The Tight Ends: The Cowboy trio of tight ends had a big day for the Cowboys. Tight end Jake Wilson grabbed a career-high two catches for a career-high 51 yards. Isaac Schoenfeld added a catch for a career-high 13 yards and Kyle Frendt also added a grab. The tight ends for the Pokes grabbed five passes for 79 yards on the night, with Isaac Schoenfeld adding a catch as well.
JB Hall Faces Former Team: Cowboy Cornerback Coach JB Hall will face his former team on Saturday. Hall joined the Cowboys this past offseason after serving on staff with Ed Lamb at Northern Colorado. He spent two seasons at Northern Colorado. In 2025, Hall contributed to a Northern Colorado defense that showed clear, measurable improvement across multiple statistical categories. The Bears improved in nearly every defensive metric. He played a direct role in the development of safety Cam Chapa, who was as one of the top defensive backs in the FCS. Under Hall’s guidance, Chapa earned FCS Football Central Freshman All-America honors and All-Big Sky honors. Prior to his time at UNC, Hall served as special teams coordinator, defensive pass game coordinator, and cornerbacks Coach at Utah Tech. He also served as the program’s Interim Head Coach following the season.
Tote Returns: Running back Samuel “Tote” Harris made his return to the field against Colorado State after missing time at the end of last season. He finished with 63 yards on 16 carries against the Rams. For his young career, Harris has rushed for 621 yards in his career. He has added over 5.4 yards per carry in his career for the Brown and Gold.
Hughes Makes Debut: Quarterback Tyler Hughes made his debut for the Cowboys against Colorado State. He recorded 130 yards passing completing over 60 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 52 yards in the contest and also added a rushing score.
Chunk Plays: The Pokes finished the contest against Colorado State with eight chunk plays. Jake Wilson had two from the air with a 29-yard reception along with a 22 yarder. It was part of three through the air, as the Pokes also added five rushes of 10 or more yards. Hughes led the Pokes on the ground with three rushes of 10 or more yards in the contest.
Dunkley and Tackles for Loss: Defensive end Jack Dunkley made his first start for the Brown and Gold. He added a tackle for loss in the first half for his 25th of his career and added a half tackle for loss in the second frame. He has 25.5 tackles for loss in his college career.
True Freshman Make Plays: A pair of freshman corners saw extensive playing time at Colorado State. Kendall Griffin and Therman Williams each added three tackles in their college debuts. Griffin as named a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com and was one of the top defensive backs in the State of Illinois. He is the third recruit from Morgan Park High School in the last three seasons. He was also named the three-star recruit by Rivals. Williams also goes by Boogie was named a three-star recruit by 247Sports. He was listed as the No. 78 prospect in the talent rich state. He was also named a three-star recruit by Rivals. During his senior season, he recorded 44 stops with 40 solo tackles.
Sandvik with the Kick: Cowboy kicker Erik Sandvik had a strong opening contest at Colorado State. He recorded a pair of field goals in the contest with the first coming from 37 yards and the second coming from a career-long 48 yards. His second kick, that was a career long came in the closing seconds of the second quarter. Last season, Sandvik started all 12 games for the Cowboys at kicker. He finished the season going 6-of-11 in field goals and was 6-of-9 inside 50 yards with a long of 41 yards. He hit his first career field goal from 25 yards against Akron. He hit a 41 yarder against Fresno State.
About Northern Colorado
The Bears head into the contest against the Cowboys with a 0-2 record after falling at home to South Dakota by a score of 38-23. Northern Colorado dropped their season opener against Weber State by a score of 30-29, in a contest also at Nottingham Field.
A solid offense, the Bears average 431 yards of total offense per game rushing for 185 yards per game and 246 yards through the air. Defensively, Northern Colorado allows 381 yards of total yards per game with 175.5 on the ground and 205.5 yards through the air.
Northern Colorado’s offense is paced by quarterback Kenny Lueth as he throws for 213.5 yards per game with a pair of touchdowns. He also rushes for 61 yards per game and has a pair of two rushing scores. UNC running back Mathias Price has 140 yards on the ground this season with a score. Marcus Mozer has eight catches for 78 yards on the season to lead the team. Trey Olsen has two touchdown receptions.
The Northern Colorado defense is led by safety Franky Morales with 12 tackles on the season. He also has an interception and two pass breakups. Linebacker KJ Smedley has seven tackles on the season with two tackles for loss.
Football Hour with Jay Sawvel Starts on Wednesday
The second episode of this year’s Football Hour with Jay Sawvel will be live on Wednesday, Sept. 9 on Cowboy Sports Network affiliate stations, beginning at 7 p.m. MT. The show will run each Wednesday throughout the season.
The show will be hosted by the Voice of the Cowboys Keith Kelley. Kelley and Sawvel will preview Wyoming’s season opener at Colorado State. The show will also feature a Cowboy player and staff member.
