Youth 4-H clubs throughout Lincoln County are accepting enrollment for the new year. New members should enroll by calling the Agricultural Extension office in Afton. Returning members can enroll online.
October 1 opens the enrollment season for 4-H clubs. Some clubs begin meeting immediately, while some will begin meeting in January.
“We have a new robotics club that will start in November, so if kids want to learn some Lego robotics, we are definitely accepting new members for that program,” said Shar Perry, who serves as Youth Educator with the Lincoln County Extension office.
Members are invited to enroll now for clubs that will meet throughout the year. Wyoming does offer open enrollment at any time during the year, but many clubs have deadlines that are critical to the success of members’ projects, so early enrollment is often essential, depending on the project.
Clubs working with animals have a hard deadline. “Animals need to be owned and tagged by certain dates for participation in the fair,” Perry added. “Some club enrollment can close for safety reasons with numbers and dates. The 4-H in Wyoming has an open enrollment, so you can enroll at any time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to be able to do the project that you want to do.”
Youth who are interested in becoming new members should call the Afton Extension office at (307)885-3132. “It’s best to call the office so we can find the right club and the right fit for that family,” said Perry. Returning members can enroll through the registration website at 4h.zsuite.org
Lincoln County 4-H programs continue to grow in membership and offerings each year. “That’s the fun thing about 4-H,” which is “learned by doing. If you can imagine it, 4-H can basically do it,” if adult leaders are available to guide the youth members. “It’s not just animals. Everybody thinks it’s animals because that’s what they see at the fair, but we have so many other programs. Whatever the interest is, 4-H has something for everyone.”
