The following is a release from Lower Valley Energy –
Afton, WY – Lower Valley Energy experienced a transformer failure in the East Jackson substation yesterday at approximately 7:40am. The original fault was on an underground feeder in front of Jackson Hole Lumber which caused some issues with the controls in the transformer in the substation. The crews worked all day Sunday and all night last night switching loads to other feeders but the last few sections were very difficult because of the cold load pickup. The all-day outage was finally restored at 4am this morning.
The feeder will be out while the crews work the next few days to dig through the frozen ground and get it repaired. Having the feeder out of service puts strain on the other feeders especially with the extreme cold temperatures.
As the system stabilizes, we encourage those in East Jackson to limit their impact on the system. We ask that East Jackson residents conserve energy, by doing such things as turning their thermostats down, till approximately noon today.
We want to thank the Jackson community for their patience with this issue.
