Coach Jack Cobb Talks Rattlers Football

The Rattlers were entering the 2022 season as the defending State Champions across 6-man football in Wyoming and were entering this week with a rematch against last year’s championship game opponent the Encampment Tigers fresh on their minds. The rematch ended much the way of last years championship game with the Rattlers taking a one-sided victory from their feline opposition.

Little Snake River looks well on it’s way to another trip to Laramie this season as heavy favorites to repeat as 6-man champs, Coach Cobb believes the key to their success has been veteran leadership from his upperclassman. “Last year we had a good strong senior class that led us and then this year it is no different, we have 4 seniors that just you know, they have a purpose this year and they’re leading the team”

The Rattlers currently sit as the 3rd best offense across all of 6-man and by FAR the top defense in the classification being the only defense in 6-man still allowing under 100 points on the year an not just under, but well under having allowed only 73 points in their 6 games leading into this week and having shutout 3 separate opponents in those 6 games.

A huge part of their success could be chalked up to the communities competitive culture at least according to the Coach, “I think the culture of snake river has always been that, very competitive and high expectations”. The school was primarily a basketball school for many years until football returned for the first time since the 50’s and the team found success nearly instantly, going undefeated and winning the state title in the 2nd year the program saw the return of the gridiron.

Coach Cobb also credits the parents of his athletes for the Rattlers surge in athletic success, “If you look at any successful program whether it is the McKay’s in Star Valley or any place if you ask them I am sure the first piece of people they talk about it parents. It begins there and we have some of the best parents there are around and they are so supportive of their kids.”

After shutting out Larsen-Eden this week the Rattlers have finished their regular season with a perfect 7-0 record and will head to the postseason as the 6-man’s #1 seed as they look to repeat as state champions.
