Cutter racing event planned to honor military service members

Event set for November 28-29

The Star Valley Cutter Racers will kick off the 2020-2021 Chariot Racing Season with a racing weekend set for November 28 and November 29.

The Old Timers TAPS Chariot Races will get underway on Saturday, November 28 at the Star Valley Cutter Racing Track at 1 p.m. The event will continue on Sunday, November 29, wth races beginning at noon.
Addmission for each race day is $5 with additional donations encouraged. Proceeds from the weekend will benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

“This race honors our heritage in cutter and chariot racing while also benefiting the families of out fallen military service members,” said Susan Hale Jaracz, one of the event organizers. “Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS, (taps.org) provides community and grief support for Gold Star Families and others who have lost loved ones in the Department of Defence.”

“Please come support this event, by running, attending, sponsoring, vending, and or volunteering,” Jaracz said. “Don’t forget your patriotic spirit and love for our military.”

The Star Valley Cutter Racing Track is located at 1489 Allred Road, west of Afton.
Racers interested in participating in the event can contact Tom Nelson (307) 248-3693. The deadline for racers and teams to sign-up for the race is November 24 at 7 p.m.

Those interested in being event vendors and sponsors can contact Susan Hale Jacracz at (307) 220-7114. The sign-up deadline for vendors and sponsors is November 22.

Cutter Racing  Season Schedule
The All American Cutter and Chariot Race Association was established in 1934. The AACCRA will begin their racing season on November 28.

“The All American Cutter and Chariot Race Association has its roots in the history of our community,” said Tomi White, one of the event coordinators. “It has turned into a highly competative chariot racing with well-bred and trained racehorses and brilliantly captures the spirit of Western Horsemanship ans winter sports in one. Please join the fun and enjoy these spirited animals who love speed and fans.”

As part of each race day event there are concessions available for purchase. Drawings for prizes are also held throughout the competition.

Admission is $5 per day.

The 2020-2021 schedule is as follows.
Nov. 28: Old Timers TAPS, 1 p.m.
Nov. 29: Old Timers TAPS, noon
Dec. 19: AACCRA, 1 p.m.
Dec. 26 AACCRA, 1 p.m.
Jan. 9 Western Wyo Invitational, noon
Jan. 10 Western Wyo Invitational, 11 a.m.
Jan. 23: AACCRA, 1 p.m.
Feb. 13: Shriners Chariot Races, noon
Feb. 14: Shriners Chariot Races, noon.
Race dates are weather dependent.
