Friday Night Prep Recap: Teams punch their ticket to State Football

Jackson Hole: 21 Star Valley: 42
Jackson led Star Valley 14-7 with just over three minutes left in the second quarter as the Braves knifed their way down the field and scored on a long pass from Brant Nelson to Hazen Erickson. Star Valley then outscored the Broncs 14-0 in the third quarter to put the game away with a 42-21 final. Both Dean Shaw and R.J. Cazier each had passing, rushing and receiving touchdowns in the effort. Jackson got a monster effort from Jeydon Cox who finished with 53 carries for 213 yards and three total touchdowns.

Powell: 20 Cody: 13
After losing big to the Broncs during the regular season, the Panthers stormed the Cody field after the upset and will face off against Star Valley in a rematch of the 2016 3A title game. The 3A championship will take place on Friday at 3 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.

4A
Cheyenne Central: 35 Sheridan: 62
The Broncs will be heading back to Laramie to try and rectify their title game loss a season ago.

Cheyenne East: 21 Thunder Basin: 27
The Bolts will make their first title game appearance against a Sheridan program that has won more state titles than anyone else.

2A
Thermopolis: 22 Buffalo: 45
The Bobcats led 14-7 but the Bison could not be contained as they ran away with the win.

Burns: 12 Mountain View: 56
This was actually the closest game the Buffaloes had all season as they have annihilated their competition to this point in the season.

This is a rematch of last year’s 2A title game which tilted to the Bison a season ago. Both teams are undefeated.

Southeast: 7 Big Horn: 48
The Rams roll back to Laramie and will face a familiar foe.

Upton-Sundance: 7 Cokeville: 16
The Panthers pull the mild upset on their home field and set up a 1A rematch from last year.

6-Man
Lingle-Ft. Laramie: 58 Hannah-Elk Mountain: 92
The Miners make their first trip back to the state game since 2010.

State Volleyball

Thunder Basin pulled the upset in the 4A Class, sending Regional Champion Cheyenne East to the Consolation bracket where they will face the Star Valley Lady Braves at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. This match will be here at svinews.com and also on Swift 98.7 FM. The winner will advance to the Consolation Finals while the loser will be eliminated Kelly Walsh will face the Bolts in the 4A Championship.

In 3A it will be Worland and Rawlins in the championship in a match up of Regional Champions. In the Consolation Bracket the Pinedale Wranglers face the Lander Tigers and the Douglas Bearcats face Mountain View on Saturday morning. Sundance and Wind River will play for the 2A title. Finally, the Cokeville Panthers will try and secure a three-peat as they face Saratoga in the 1A championship. CHS is gunning for their 24th volleyball state title.
