Friday night sports recap

The Braves struggled to run the ball against a stingy Sugar-Salem defense while the Diggers knocked off Star Valley in Afton, 22-6. Wyatt and Carson Harris combined to carry the ball 27 times for a total of 126 on the ground and Daniel Neal completed eight passes for 89 yards and a score.

Star Valley finished with just 20 yards on the ground on 21 carries. Starting quarterback, Kort Hilton, left the game in the second quarter with an injury and did not return. In his absence, Taft McClure completed 11 of 25 passes for 100 yards a touchdown and an interception. Winston Green led the team with seven receptions for 63 yards. Jacob Hodges scored his first varsity touchdown on a 37-yard bomb just before halftime.

Star Valley fell to (1-2) on the season while Sugar-Salem improved to (1-2). The Diggers become the first team in the series to win on the road.

The Braves will play their first Wyoming opponent next week as they travel to Rawlins to take on the Outlaws (0-3).

3A West Regional Golf
After Day One in Pinedale, the Cody Broncs are in the lead in the team race with a +41. Star Valley is 18 strokes back at a +59. Lovell is a close third at +61. Green River (+82), Lander Valley (+88), Pinedale (+89), Lyman (+102) and Powell (+103) round out the remainder of the scores.

Green River leads the girls side of the team score with a 266. Star Valley is second with a 314 followed by Lovell with a 338. Lander Valley (342), Lyman (357) and Cody (379) fill out the rest of the scores.

Day Two of the tournament begins Saturday morning.

Star Valley Volleyball hosted Day One of the SVHS Invite on Friday with six other teams in attendance. The Lady Braves fell to Rich County (UT) 2-1 (25-21, 13-24, 25-22) and defeated Jackson 2-0 (25-20, 25-17).
