Lady Braves sweep Evanston on Pink Night

A large crowd of fans and students were in the main gym of Star Valley High School on Tuesday night as the Lady Braves hosted the Evanston Red Devils for a 4A West match and also a fundraiser for local 7th grader, Izibelle Sevigny.

With both teams wearing pink, Star Valley won in straight sets 26-24, 25-17 and 25-16. More importantly, the tradition of shining a light on the battle with cancer among those in the community and prompting residents to be proactive with screening continues.

During the match, Maddie Hale had 11 kills to lead the way. Josie Linford, Kenlee Engelhardt and Shay Frazier each finished with five of their own. Delancy Brog also peppered the Devils with four aces which led the team effort of ten total. Brog also led the team with 13 digs while Hale added ten. Taya Johnson had eight and Madeline Jeske and Frazier had five apiece. Cameron Erickson finished with 28 assists. McKayla Christiansen led the team with three blocks.

Coach Brian Toomer reflected on the evening.

“Evanston came to play and we had to play through some errors in the first set,” he said. “But we settled in and played solid the second and third sets to win in three.”

Toomer praised those who helped organize the evening.

“The crowd was great and brought a fun environment for our pink night,” he said. “I’d like to thank the local businesses, parents and community for the support to our night. A big thanks to Marci Johnson, who with others, worked hard to make it a great success.”

The Lady Braves wrap up the home schedule on Wednesday evening as they host the Jackson Lady Broncs and will honor the senior players for Senior Night. The last time the two programs met in Teton County, the match went a full five sets. The varsity match is scheduled to start at 6 pm. SVI Media will be streaming the varsity match.
