Local community shows support for property tax ballot initiative

Roughly 100 people showed up to the Thayne Community Center Monday evening to sign and show support for a ballot initiative aimed to reduce property taxes by 50%. The initiative, titled People’s Initiative to Limit Property Tax through Homeowner’s Exemption, has been certified by Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray. The initiative will be included on the ballet in the 2024 election if it receives the required 30,000 signatures.

Rich Weber, who is helping spearhead the statewide process of gathering signatures, spoke during the Town Hall meeting in Thayne Monday evening. Weber explained what is in the initiative and how the process would work. SVI News attended the Town Hall and a full recording of Weber’s comments can be found in the video below.

Registered voters who would like to sign the initiative can do so at the following times and locations this week in Star Valley.

10/17: Alpine Town Council. 5:30-7:00 p.m.

10/18: Etna Trading Co. 7:00-9:00 a.m.

10/18: Etna Community Center. 5:00-7:00 p.m.

10/19: Etna Trading Co. 7:00-9:00 a.m.

10/19: Etna Community Center. 5:00-7:00 p.m.

10/21: Thayne Community Center. 9:00-11:00 a.m.

10/21: Afton Broulims. Noon-3:00 p.m.

10/21: Alpine Civic Center. 9:00-11:00 a.m.
