Standoff in Sheridan ends following shooting death of officer

A police standoff that lasted more than 24 hours in the city of Sheridan, Wyoming is over. The Sheridan Police Department said that as of 5:12 p.m. the standoff ended and there are no threats to the community. No additional details as to how the standoff ended were provided.

The standoff began Tuesday morning after an officer with the department, Sgt. Nevada Krinkee, was shot while executing a trespass warning. Sgt. Krinkee was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A male suspect fled the scene, barricading himself inside an area home. The home was surround by law enforcement and a standoff ensued, lasting through the night and most of the day Wednesday.

Following the tragic death of Sgt. Krinkee, several fundraisers have been organized to show their support to the family, including the WHP Family Support Network. Donations can be made to their Venmo account shown in the below image.

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon also ordered both the U.S. and Wyoming flags be lowered to half staff in Sheridan and the Capitol Building in honor and memory of Sgt. Krinkee and his family.
