Star Valley teams qualify for 4A State Basketball Tournament

The COVID-19 modified regionals are halfway complete as teams have qualified for next week’s 3A/4A State Tournament in Casper or they have been eliminated and turn their attention towards Spring sports.

The Star Valley Braves routed rival Jackson, 70-23 to send the Broncs home and then knocked off Green River, 42-33, to take the top spot out of the Southwest.

The Braves will now face off against the Riverton Wolverines for the overall top seed out of the Western Conference on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on the Wolverine court.

The Lady Braves took what was thought to be a dicey third match up with Evanston and ran away with it, 42-27 in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated. The Star Valley girls fell behind 30-11 to Green River in the final tilt and made a run to make things interesting and cut the lead to six but eventually lost 34-25.

The ladies will now play for the third seed in Riverton against the Cody Fillies in an 11 a.m. game on Saturday.

SVI Media will have video of both contests as well as audio on Swift 98 and online at svinews.com/radio/.
