SWOT projects continue

Legislation approved, now connecting areas.

The work surrounding Southwest Wyoming Offroad Trails (SWOT) continues.

With Legislation approval, Mark Tessero reports, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) will be working towards promulgating rules from two bills with law enforcement and the federal government for I-80 connections. Safety engineers are part of the preparation.

An estimated 110 miles of Phase 1 of SWOT have been signed with carsonite directional signs. Staging in Evanston are under consideration.

Sweetwater County connections are underway.  The SWOT approved connection into Uinta County is cleared to get to Granger, with work continuing into Green River.

SWOT riders can also get into Sweetwater County south of I-80 on the county road going toward Buckboard Marina at Flaming Gorge.

Tessero also reported, Fossil Butte and the National Park Service have agreed to allow the pilot program for licensed OHV’s through the monument possibly by the end of summer.

He noted, with this connection through the monument and the few connections close to Kemmerer riders will be able to more easily be able to access north Lincoln County through the Dempsey Ridger Trail.

‘The next link I believe will be to get from the Bridger Valley area to Lincoln County,” said Tessero. “I’m working on the connections with Amy Butler and Gary Welling the Lincoln County engineer and  planner’s office. I’m also working on making a connection to the Sweetwater Royalties Aggie Grazing organization.”
