(Video) – Star Valley Basketball hosts Thunder Basin: January 12, 1 & 2:30 p.m.

SATURDAY JANUARY 12

After a rare off Friday, the Star Valley teams will face a very stiff challenge as the Thunder Basin Bolts come to Afton for a Saturday afternoon clash.

Currently, the Thunder Basin girls team is (8-1) with their only loss coming to a California school visiting Wyoming for the Energy Classic. Perhaps the best win on the Bolts resume is a nine-point victory over otherwise unbeaten Douglas.

The Bolts boys team (8-2) are also among the top teams in Wyoming’s 4A Class. Their losses are to Puyallup, Washington in overtime and a 20-point shocker to Evanston back on December 13.

Although Star Valley’s first ever Wyoming state team title came against Gillette at the state tournament in 1968, this is the first time a Gillette high school has ever made the trip to Star Valley High School for a game. The girls tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the boys varsity scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

THURSDAY –

The Star Valley Basketball teams will be in Mountain View this Thursday, January 10, to take on the Buffalos on their home court referred to by Star Valley fans as “The Sauna.”

The MVHS girls team comes into the clash ranked as the #3 team in Wyoming’s 3A and sporting a record of (6-3) in the most recent WyoPreps.com Coaches & Media Poll. The Lady Braves (6-2) have been ranked as high as #3 in Wyoming’s 4A Class before dropping a pair of games to the Ridgline Riverhawks over the holiday break. The Lady Buffs played a trio of tough teams at the Winter Classic in Pinedale. They lost to #2 Buffalo 55-51 before dropping a tight 48-47 decision to Rawlins. The team then battled top-ranked Douglas and held the lead at half before the Bearcats finished the game with a 67-46 final. The girls varsity game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

On the boys side the Braves (4-4) will be looking to carry some momentum from their last two outings at the Star Valley Shootout where they lost to tournament champion Judge Memorial out of Salt Lake City, 50-47 and then defeated a good Sugar-Salem team 46-44 to close out the event.  The Buffalos (4-5) recently won one and lost a pair in the Winter Classic in Rawlins where they lost to Buffalo 49-24 and the Outlaws 6149. They picked up a win over Douglas, 56-51. The boys varsity game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

SVI Media is pleased to bring you the action from Uinta County as these two traditional rivals maintain their intensity despite a change in classification. Watch the game in high-definition and join the Aspen Physical Therapy Countdown to Tip-off approximately 20 minutes prior.
