Registration open through March 1 for Star Valley Little League Baseball
After starting Little League baseball in the valley a year ago, the goals and excitement for another season of growth are now underway. Richard Huntsman spoke with SVI about some of the accomplishments from the first season.
“I think the biggest thing was kids loving baseball,” he said. “We had lot who played and a lot who are excited for this year. It was awesome. It was a lot of work and we had a lot of help but we loved it. We were the grounds crew, we were painting the field and picking up uniforms but we had great support. We had a lot of parents who told us that they wished they. Had known about it earlier.”

Registration for the league is open now at starvalleybaseball.com and parents and kids are encouraged to sign up so the league can continue to build into it’s second year.
“We’re excited to add a senior division for 13-16 year olds,” Huntsman continued. “That team will get to go to the state tournament in July. Last year we took one all star team and this year we’re hoping to take two. We’re hoping to expand and get bigger and bigger.”
Those wishing to coach can expect encouragement from the league for three to four practices a week.
“We’re also working to arrange games with Jackson, Bear Lake and the Bridger Valley,” Huntsman said.
“We try and keep the prices down and the kids get a cool hat and cool jersey,” Huntsman added. “It seems early but it gives us time to figure out how many kids we have and get things lined up.”
He also noted what was revealed in the first season.
“What surprised me the most is how much support we’ve got,” he said. “There are a lot of parents who have a passion for baseball and we saw a huge improvement in the kids and how they played. It was fun to watch them get better and better every week. We added more board members and we’re up to seven now. We need umps and coaches and any support parents who want to give.”
Huntsman hopes the league will grow by leaps and bounds.
“Five years from now I’d love to see us expand across the whole valley with 6-8 teams and grow into a legion team for the older kids. I do see the state adding baseball as a high school sport so I’d love to see Star Valley built up if that happens in the future.”
