Bear Lake Girls Start Early But Fall Late To Grace

The Bear Lake Girls were in action twice last week, the first of the games took place in Grace against the favored Grizzlies squad in a game that was unfortunately broadcast over the airways a little late thanks to a reschedule on the school’s part deciding not to play the C team game and jumping right into the JV contest first. The game was picked up at the halftime break and perhaps the SVI crew was a jinx on the ladies team as the game was relatively close at the halftime break, being a 1 possession contest but as the 2nd half got under way the Grizzlies began pulling away almost just as soon as as the half began.

The foul issues reared their ugly head early and often into the 2nd half which was a majority of the problem, the more experienced squad of Grace made Bear Lake pay for the foul trouble as well shooting very well from the line and seemingly ever possession was capitalizing with at least 1 point out of the possession. The Bears offense was also held to long ball attempts as the Grizzlies defense was stiff in the paint and didn’t allow any of the Bears post-players an inch of separation and the passing game wasn’t opening anything up.

Normally the 3-ball is the Bears biggest strength as Saydee Shaul and Tayzlee Neal have been remarkable from beyond the arc this season but on days like Saturday where they just happen to be off, if Dani Bassett and the Crockett’s can’t find separation under the basket the Bears have not yet found their grove offensively enough to generate alternative consistent scoring methods, but they are a young team still finding their footing so one would assume with some time and another season under their belt, the offense will grow. The defense has been stellar all season already however and for the most part they were solid in this contest until the foul trouble began and kept sending the Grizzlies to the line for free points, one to forget for the Bears but we shall see how they bounce back as Regionals draw closer, catch the action on SVI-4 at home and audio only on the Wave for the road games.
