The Lincoln County School District #2 Board of Trustees met in a special meeting and entered executive session with the purpose of interviewing the four finalists for the open board position vacated by Wade Hirschi’s resignation and upcoming move out of the area.

After interviewing the candidates the board emerged from their executive session and after a short agenda regarding personnel matters, named Lenn Johnson to the position representing Area 1.

Johnson and his wife, Gayle, were in attendance at the meeting. Johnson lives south of Cokeville near the southern border of the school district which extends from the mouth of the Snake River Canyon to Sage Junction. He applied for the open position to help out his hometown.

“I wanted to help out the community of Cokeville and get a voice on the board and a line of communication to our little community,” he said.

There is no specific project on Johnson’s mind as a member of the board as he is anxious to be part of the success of the district.

“I’m just excited right now,” he added. “Our schools are so good. They are at the top of the state in testing and the graduation rate is near 100-percent or at 100 percent in Cokeville. I’m just tickled with the academics and the student success. I’m kind of overwhelmed right now and just grateful.”

Johnson is scheduled to take the oath of office on April 3 after the district comes back from spring break which starts this weekend.

Johnson will complete the remainder of Hirschi’s term which will be up for election in November.
