Pokes Take Road Trip to Face San Jose State on Saturday

 LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 2, 2023) –The Pokes hit the road this weekend heading to San Jose State on Saturday evening. The contest that is slated for an 8 p.m. MT start will be the only regular season meeting between the two schools this season.

The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network with Chris Lewis on the call and Dan Dickau on Color.

Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelley will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.

About The Teams

The Cowboys head into the contest with a 7-14 overall record and a 2-7 mark in conference play after defeating Fresno State 85-62 on Tuesday. The Pokes have hit 27 three in the last two games The Pokes hit 10 in the first half against the Bulldogs on Tuesday evening. Wyoming averages 8.9 three-pointers per game for second in the MW and No. 38 in the nation. Wyoming is shooting 35.6 percent from behind the arc to rank fifth in the conference. The Cowboys are shooting 45.4 percent from the field this season with their opponents shooting 45.8 percent.

San Jose State is enjoying its best start in Mountain West Conference play at 4-5 and are 13-9 overall. In fact, the last time the Spartans logged more than three league wins in any one season was the 2016-17 campaign. The Spartans average 67.7 points per game on 45.1 percent shooting from the floor, which includes a 33.3 percent clip from beyond the 3-point arc. San Jose State’s foes score 66.2 points per contest, connecting on 41.5 percent of their field-goal attempts and 33.8 percent of their shots from deep.

 About The Players

The Pokes are led in scoring this season by Noah Reynolds at 15.2 points per game, as he ranks eighth in the conference. He ranks fourth in the conference shooting 48 percent from the field. Hunter Maldonado adds 12.9 points per game and adds 3.7 assists per game for seventh in the conference. He had eight against Fresno State for 583 in his career moving him to second all-time in MW history. Hunter Thompson adds 7.9 points per game and leads the team grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game. He has eight boards in each of the last three contests since returning from illness.

San Jose State is led by Omari Moore. He stuffs the stat sheet, pouring in 15.9 points per game to go alongside 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 4.9 assists per contest. Alvaro Cardenas is the only other Spartan to average double-figures at 10.2 points per game. Sage Tolbert III leads the charge on the glass, corralling 7.5 rebounds per contest.

About The Series

Wyoming has had the advantage in the all-time series with San Jose State, 20-2. The Cowboys have won the last 12 meetings by an average of 13.9 points per game. Wyoming won both matchups last season by a combined 37 points.
