Two transported after UTV overturns outside Alpine

In a coordinated effort between the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Star Valley Health and Alpine EMS, first-responders answered a call of an overturned UTV  just over the Idaho border outside of the Town of Alpine.

According to Alpine Fire Chief, Mike Vogt, two individuals were traveling in a side-by-side at a high rate of speed when they hit a ditch in the middle of the lake bed which caused it to turn on its side.

“The Bonneville officials were alerted first but since we were closer we responded,” Vogt said. No major injuries were reported but some pain was related to those on the scene.

“They were talking and were in good spirits,” Vogt said. “But they did complain of some pain.” That along with the high rate of speed resulted in the decision to transport the individuals to area medical facilities. One was sent to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and the other was sent to Star Valley Health.

The accident took place at mile marker 400 on US 26.

Vogt asked residents to be cautious during the holiday weekend.

“Please be careful,” he said. “The conditions are dry for fires and it’s the second time this type of accident has happened at that particular wash out. We just want people to be mindful as they enjoy their weekend.”
